September: Things to get up to this month

Summer- the season so many of us look forward to all year long, but between the vacations, weekends spent basking in the sun (although uncomfortable at times), the BBQ’s and music festivals, the days almost seem to slip right through your fingers! Before you know it, the warm weather is replaced with cooler temperatures; you are waking up to darker mornings, rushing out the door to take the kids to school and whipping out your favourite jumper.

Starting from the first of September, Liam Dillon and The Boat Inn will be launching ‘The Sunday Homework Sessions’, allowing in-house chefs to put their culinary skills to the test by creating dishes from the restaurant’s menu.

What’s even better is that they are giving you the chance to dine at the restaurant and try these dishes, as well as giving them your feedback.

Calling all meat lovers- this event is definitely for you! The Meatopia festival will be running again for a sixth time. Be prepared to savour a variety of tasty meat-based dishes cooked over wood or charcoal by some of London’s best chefs.

Throughout the day, guests will be able to put their eating skills to the test by entering the Wing eating competition, as well as their taste buds, in the legendary Dr Sweetsmoke’s Lava Wing challenge - which is not for the faint hearted.

Aside from enjoying the tastiest wings that Manchester has to offer, you can soak up the love music from local bands and dj’s, or take part in the axe throwing and BBQ cooking demonstrations being held across the weekend.

Brown’s Hotel

Mayfair’s Brown’s Hotel, part of Rocco Forte Hotels, revealed its new restaurant, Charlie’s, on 9th September. Named after Lord Charles Forte, the restaurant is supervised by Michelin-starred Chef Adam Byatt, who joined Brown’s as Chef Director. Count on Adam and Head Chef Matt Starling, to serve dishes with ingredients of the highest quality sourced from suppliers across the globe, while embracing a bygone era of service with a sense of theatre. Diners can expect daily specials such as whole poached salmon and glazed Essex gammon will be served on a traditional Silver Trolley. Alongside this, the à la carte menu features fresh, seasonal options such as fried courgette flowers with truffle honey, whole 12oz Dover sole simply grilled or pan fried with caper butter, and roasted Yorkshire grouse, blackberries and bread sauce.
